Teso Education, Medical and Conservation Trust is located in the Soroti District of the northern area of the middle part of Uganda, approximately 6-7 hours from Kampala and also in the Kibale rainforest area near Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda.
Established in 2007, Teso has an overall objective of enhancing collaboration with volunteers, concerned individuals and other organisations with the aim of improving lives.
We work with volunteers interested in gaining work related experience in Africa. We focus on volunteerism to enable communities gain better educational facilities and a healthier environment and lives. Our interaction with volunteers provides a better way of cultural exchange and friendship than mere tourism.
Our rural and urban children here are deprived and do not have adequate facilities for education.Though many children get schooling through the Government initiative to provide free universal primary education, there are no teaching and learning resources for use in schools and in rural areas there are few schools at all. Parents try to organise community programmes to ensure that children acquite literacy and numeracy skills.
We provide health care in rural communities where people can’t afford to travel to visit the doctor. You may assist at such clinics if you are a medical professional or in training as such.
If your interest lies in conservation, we can offer you opportunities to work in the areas where chimpanzees are protected, furthering these projects. Or you may work in preserving the wetlands and other endangered habitats where wildlife is so abundant and we wish to preserve what is left of it.
If you are a student teacher, teacher, biologist, environmentalist, or a medical professional this is an ideal project for you as you will learn and become involved practically. Even if you are not one of these professionals yet but are good hearted and want to experience and learn, then we will take you. You will not be sorry you came to us!
